For aged persons dependent on a relative in Australia.
- Age 65 (man), 60-65 (woman-eligibility age depends on date of birth)
- Martial status: single, divorced, widowed or in separation
- Has a sponsor (child, parent, brother, sister, grandchild, uncle, aunt, nephew, niece) who is a permanent resident, Australian citizen or eligible New Zealand citizen.A New Zealand citizen who at the time of their last entry to Australia would have met their health and character checks and:
- held a Subclass 444 (Special Category) visa on 26 February 2001
- held a Subclass 444 visa that was in force for at least one year in the two years before 26 February 2001, or
- has a certificate, issued under the Social Security Act 1991, that states the citizen, for the purposes of the Social Security Act, was residing in Australia on a particular date (Centrelink stopped accepting applications for these certificates on 26 Februrary 2004)
- Wholly or substantially dependent on relative in Australia for at least 3 years
- No substantial criminal record
- Good health
- Settled permanent resident, Australian citizen or eligible New Zealand citizen.A New Zealand citizen who at the time of their last entry to Australia would have met their health and character checks and:
- held a Subclass 444 (Special Category) visa on 26 February 2001
- held a Subclass 444 visa that was in force for at least one year in the two years before 26 February 2001, or
- has a certificate, issued under the Social Security Act 1991, that states the citizen, for the purposes of the Social Security Act, was residing in Australia on a particular date (Centrelink stopped accepting applications for these certificates on 26 Februrary 2004)
- Age 18 and over
- Sponsor or other nominated person provides Assurance of Support including security bond
Remaining Relative, subclass 115/835
For people whose only near relatives are usually resident in Australia and are Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or eligible New Zealand citizens.
- Has a sponsor (parent, brother, sister) who is a permanent resident, Australian citizen or eligible New Zealand citizen.A New Zealand citizen who at the time of their last entry to Australia would have met their health and character checks and:
- held a Subclass 444 (Special Category) visa on 26 February 2001
- held a Subclass 444 visa that was in force for at least one year in the two years before 26 February 2001, or
- has a certificate, issued under the Social Security Act 1991, that states the citizen, for the purposes of the Social Security Act, was residing in Australia on a particular date (Centrelink stopped accepting applications for these certificates on 26 Februrary 2004)
- Has no near relative* who is not a permanent resident, Australian citizen or eligible New Zealand citizen.A New Zealand citizen who at the time of their last entry to Australia would have met their health and character checks and:
- held a Subclass 444 (Special Category) visa on 26 February 2001
- held a Subclass 444 visa that was in force for at least one year in the two years before 26 February 2001, or
- has a certificate, issued under the Social Security Act 1991, that states the citizen, for the purposes of the Social Security Act, was residing in Australia on a particular date (Centrelink stopped accepting applications for these certificates on 26 Februrary 2004)
- No substantial criminal record
- Good health
*near relative (apply to the primary applicant and his partner):
- Parent, sibling, or
- Under 18 non dependent child, or
- Adult non dependent child
- Settled permanent resident, Australian citizen or eligible New Zealand citizen.A New Zealand citizen who at the time of their last entry to Australia would have met their health and character checks and:
- held a Subclass 444 (Special Category) visa on 26 February 2001
- held a Subclass 444 visa that was in force for at least one year in the two years before 26 February 2001, or

Carer, subclass 116
For people needed to care for an Australian relative or a member of their family unit, who has a medical condition.
- Has a sponsor (parent, brother, sister) who is a permanent resident, Australian citizen or eligible New Zealand citizen.A New Zealand citizen who at the time of their last entry to Australia would have met their health and character checks and:
- held a Subclass 444 (Special Category) visa on 26 February 2001
- held a Subclass 444 visa that was in force for at least one year in the two years before 26 February 2001, or
- has a certificate, issued under the Social Security Act 1991, that states the citizen, for the purposes of the Social Security Act, was residing in Australia on a particular date (Centrelink stopped accepting applications for these certificates on 26 Februrary 2004)
- Declaration to provide care to the sponsor or member of his family unit for at least 2 years
- No substantial criminal record
- Good health
- Settled permanent resident, Australian citizen or eligible New Zealand citizen.A New Zealand citizen who at the time of their last entry to Australia would have met their health and character checks and:
- held a Subclass 444 (Special Category) visa on 26 February 2001
