1REQUIREMENTS
This visa category requires nomination by a state or territory government in Australia under State Migration Program or a sponsorship by an eligible relative living in Regional Australia.

This is a temporary 4-year visa. Visa holders are required to live and work in Regional Australia in order to qualify (after 2 years, with evidence of at least 12 months local work experience ) to apply for a permanent visa – Skilled Regional, subclass 887.

Australian sponsor: Australian close relative (parent, child, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, nephew, niece, including step relatives) or eligible New Zealand citizen.

  • Under 45 years of age when invited to apply
  • Nominates an occupation from MEDIUM AND LONG-TERM STRATEGIC SKILLS LIST (subclass 189) or SHORT-TERM SKILLED OCCUPATION LIST (for subclass 190 and 489 in  case a candidate applies under nomination by the state/territory government)
  • Has skills assessed as suitable for the nominated occupation by a relevant assesing authority
  • Has at least COMPETENT ENGLISH (see PDF below)
  • Achieved 60 points or more on the POINT TEST (see PDF below)

SKILLED MIGRATION – RELATIVE OR GOVERNMENT SPONSORED

At least 12 months work experience while holding one of the following visas:

  • Skilled Designated Area Sponsored, subclass 496
  • Skilled Independent Regional, subclass 495
  • Skilled Regional Sponsored, subclass 475
  • Skilled Regional Sponsored, subclass 487
  • Skilled Nominated or Sponsored, subclass 489
  • 2 years residence in Regional Australia
  • No substantial criminal record
  • Good health

SKILLED MIGRATION – EMPLOYER SPONSORED

Employer Nomination Scheme, subclass 186

  • Under 45 years of age (under 50 if applies under Temporary Residence Transition stream)
  • Has skills assessed as suitable by the relevant skills assessing authority, at least three years full-time work experience in the nominated occupation from MEDIUM AND LONG-TERM STRATEGIC SKILLS LIST and SHORT-TERM SKILLED OCCUPATION LIST and at least COMPETENT ENGLISH (see PDF below), OR
  • Has worked full-time in Australia in the nominated occupation on a Temporary Work, subclass 457 visa for the nominating employer for last two years prior to the visa application being made and has at least COMPETENT ENGLISH(see PDF below), OR
  • Meets the age, skills and English language requirements stated in the labour agreement (applicants sponsored by an employer through a tailored and negotiated labour agreement or regional migration agreement)
  • Meets any mandatory licensing, registration or professional membership requirements (if applicable)
  • No substantial criminal record
  • Good health

Under some circumstances, visa applicant may seek exemption from skill, language or age eligibility requirements.

  • Actively and lawfully operates a business in Australia
  • Has a vacancy to fill
  • Follows all relevant Australian laws and has a satisfactory record of meeting immigration laws
  • Has a current training strategy for existing and future Australian employees or in case of recently established business, has a training plan

Regional Sponsored Migration Schme, subclass 187

  • Under 45 years of age (under 50 if applies under Temporary Residence Transition stream)
  • Holds relevant to the job offer formal qualifications* and has at least COMPETENT ENGLISH (see PDF below), before the visa application is lodged, , OR
  • Has worked full-time in Australia in the nominated occupation on a Temporary Work, subclass 457 visa for the nominating employer for last two years prior to the visa application being made and has at least COMPETENT ENGLISH(see PDF below), OR
  • Meets the age, skills and English language requirements stated in the labour agreement (applicants sponsored by an employer through a tailored and negotiated labour agreement or regional migration agreement)
  • Meets any mandatory licensing, registration or professional membership requirements (if applicable)
  • No substantial criminal record
  • Good health

* has skills assessed by the relevant assessing authority if nominated as a tradesperson and obtained qualifications outside Australia
